FAQ about Hammocks

Which size hammock should I choose?

Choose a large / spacious hammock that fits within your available space. A spacious hammock offers more possibilities to lie down. Alone, with two or with all kids.
In a hammock XL or larger you can lie comfortably spacious and across. You are much freer to lie down in your desired position.

Also in a hammock with spreader bar you can lie wide or with two persons.

What is more comfortable? A hammock with or without a spreader bar..

The final choice is a personal choice. The one is better lying with spreader bar, the other without a stick. In a hammock without a spreader bar you lie diagonally or transversely. This means that 1 side is “closed”. With a hammock with spreader bar, the fabric always stays spread out and you lie more in the length of the hammock.

Pros and cons:

With bar:
– the hammock keeps the hammock always nice and open
– In this hammock you’re lying in the length
– is slightly more wobbly
– is harder to wash (TIP: in the bathtub)

Without bar:
– you are diagonally in the hammock
– less space and easier to store
– Visually / decorative slightly less

A hammock with spreader bar is tighter between the two suspension points. As a result, the suspension point comes down to about 140-160 cm. The standards for these hammocks are therefore lower and these standards are therefore less / not suitable for hammocks without spreader bars.

Buy a hammock with or without spreader bar? That is a personal choice!

Can I wash a hammock?

Yes, that’s possible. With the hand or with a short washing program at 30 degrees, the hammock will usually be sufficiently clean again. Put a knot in the cords so that it does not come out of the machine like a mess.

A hammock with spreader bar will not fit into the washing machine. But if you have a bathtub then it can be washed manually. Then let it dry outside.

How to act safely with a hammock?

In any case, do not use the hammock as a swing. Not even by the children. That is not what it means. The hammock and the people in it can experience an unfortunate outcome.
Hang a hammock without a spreader bar in a curve. This makes it easy and safe to lie down. Just sit in there and then in the lying position. A bit of lying down, that is nicer and you will not be swallowed up in the “cocoon”.

With a spreader bar, you can also sit quietly from the side and then go into the lying position. Note: these hammocks are tighter and therefore more horizontal. This allows this hammock to tilt earlier so you fall out of the hammock. Keep this in mind.

Can a hammock remain outside?

If you are careful with your stuff and want to keep it nice, it is best to bring your hammock after use. Weather-resistant hammocks can withstand moisture and the colors stay longer as with a cotton hammock. But every hammock fall back under weather conditions such as rain and UV rays. If a cotton hammock stays wet for too long, the weather (mold) can settle down. This is afterwards very difficult (or not) to get out.
If you do not use the hammock for a long time, store it well dry and in a place where the mice can not reach. Many a hammock has come to its end in a shed.

How do I hang a hammock?

There are 2 strong points needed. On a tree, beam, wall or possibly a standard.
When fastening to a tree, screwing in the tree is not recommended. Not good for the tree and there is a chance that the hook will come loose while you are lying in the hammock. When using a tree, use a firm cord or band which you pull around the trunk or branch. You can also easily adjust the height.

When using a beam, it can be screwed. Various suspension hooks are available for this.
When fastening in a wall of stone or concrete, it can also be screwed. Use the enclosed plug.

FAQ about travel hammocks...

Will you sweat quickly in a travel hammock?

No, that is not so bad. These hammocks are made of breathable parachute silk. This is a polyester fabric with a breathable fabric. This fabric is also fast-drying, weather-resistant, dirt-repellent, easily washable and colourfast.

Which suspension should I choose for the travel hammock?

If you are going around, you can best choose the ultralight hanging system from Amazonas. This set is very light with 150 grams and yet very strong. For just a daily use you can choose the Amazonas T-strap. This is easily adjustable and just a great choice. Other suspension sets are the micro rope or the tree-friendly suspension set from Ticket to the Moon. Take a look here for all our travel suspensions.

Is a travel hammock strong enough?

Yes, the travel hammocks are generally stronger than the normal hammock. The travel hammock has no hanging cords or ropes at the end, only dust. As a result, the forces are better distributed and this hammock can have a high maximum weight. Up to 200 kg. for the double version.
